8 fast facts about the 2014 Bills roster

From hair styles to homecomings, get to know your 2014 Bills with 8 fast facts.

1. All seven 2014 draft picks made it through.

From first-rounder Sammy Watkins to Seantrel Henderson at No. 237 overall, the fact that each of the Bills seven picks made it to the team’s 53 speaks to both the depth of the draft and the quality of talent hand-picked by GM Doug Whaley in the 2014 NFL Draft.

2. The Bills will carry four running backs.

Led by C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, the Buffalo backfield was already among the deepest in the league, but it’s bolstered this year with the promising duo of Boobie Dixon and Bryce Brown. Behind a massive offensive line (more on that later) and looking to churn out first downs, the Bills ground game could once again be among the league-leaders in 2014.

3. Williams & Williams & Williams & Williams. Did I mention Williams? Oh and Williams, too.

Aaron, Chris, Duke, Kyle, Mario, Mike. What are the odds that more than 10% of an NFL roster would have the same last name?

4. They might be bigger than ACTUAL Buffaloes.

Center Eric Wood checks in at 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds – he is not a small man by any stretch. With coach Marrone emphasizing size as a priority up front, Wood has now become the runt of the Bills offensive line room, which averages a whopping 6-6 and 326. As a point of reference, the average human male stands 5-9 and weighs 172 pounds. Wow.

5. Buffalo’s own.

It’s a rare thing in pro sports to return to your roots and play in your hometown - look no further than Lebron James' return to Cleveland to see what it means for an athlete to compete in the city where they were raised. Buffalo natives Mike Williams and Corey Graham are doing just that after previously spending seasons in Tampa Bay and Baltimore, respectively.

6. So. Much. Hair.

Including dreadlocks, a frizzy afro, and even an early playoff beard, the 2014 Bills represent an interesting cross section of flowing locks. Let’s knot get tied up as we mullet over though. Combing through the details might not help us straighten this out. Either way, hairs to a season full of highlights!

7. Hello my name is _________.

Several new players acquired in the offseason will make their official debuts with the Bills in 2014, including headline free agent LB Brandon Spikes and trade reward WR Mike Williams. Other valued additions to the core of the roster include running backs Bryce Brown and Boobie Dixon, CB Corey Graham, LB Keith Rivers, and G Chris Williams.

8. Practice (squad) makes perfect.

Working their way up the roster, three players that spent time on the practice squad last year have landed on the 53 at the deadline. It’s worth a tip of the cap to DT Stefan Charles, LB Ty Powell, and DE Jacquies Smith for climbing the depth chart.
