Bills Today: Buffalo listed as potential landing spot for Baker Mayfield

Posted Feb 9, 2018

Here's the Bills news of note for Feb. 9th.

1 - Buffalo listed as potential landing spot for Baker Mayfield
To no surprise, a ton of teams are going to be eyeballing the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner, Baker Mayfield, in the 2018 NFL Draft. Buffalo’s a team who could very well be in the mix, as they’re labeled one of the 10 potential landing spots for Mayfield.

MMQB’s Robert Klemko came out with his top-10 potential landing spots for Mayfield. Those destinations include: Arizona, Buffalo, Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles Chargers, Miami, New Orleans, New York Giants, New York Jets, and Washington.

Here’s why Klemko thinks Mayfield to Buffalo makes sense.

I could see head coach Sean McDermott falling in love with Mayfield’s origin story -- the two-time walk-on who won the Heisman. New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll oversaw a run-heavy offense as Alabama’s coordinator last year but has a great deal of familiarity with the offensive concepts employed at Oklahoma and across the college football landscape… If they’re kicking themselves for not using last year’s 10th overall pick (traded to Kansas City) on Patrick Mahomes, they can use the capital acquired in that deal to trade up and draft another former Texas Tech quarterback in Mayfield.

Mayfield had a marvelous four-year college career. He spent one season at Texas Tech (2013) and three seasons (2015-2017) at Oklahoma. In those 48 games, he posted 14,607 passing yards, 131 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

Mayfield’s also shown exceptional escapability during his years in the college ranks. He’s chalked up over 1,000 rushing yards and reached the end zone 21 times.

3 - McCoy meets Bills fan in Brazil
This latest example is evidence that there are Buffalo Bills fans all around the world. While on vacation in Brazil, Bills running back LeSean McCoy was greeted by a longtime fan.

The man McCoy met was named Rafael, we learned from the Buffalo News. He’s a lifelong Brazilian and became a fan of the Bills in 1989.

The fan made sure to snag a picture with McCoy and he thanked him via Twitter.

Here are Rafael’s words on his interaction with McCoy. He shared them via direct message with the Buffalo News.

“I saw him in a restaurant, but I didn’t want to bother him on his vacation. I just wanted to thank him for taking us back to the playoffs. He appeared surprised to meet a Bills fan in Brazil and asked how long I was a fan. That dates back to 1989 and the Jim Kelly era. I just told him to have a good time in Brazil. He was very friendly and was great when I asked for a picture.”
