Bills add practice squad DT

Posted Oct 24, 2011

In a move that is perhaps indicative of the health of Buffalo’s defensive interior, the Bills added a defensive tackle to their practice squad Monday signing DT Jay Ross.

Ross (6’2” 302) was released by Green Bay prior to the regular season after joining the Packers’ practice squad on Oct. 20, 2010. The East Carolina product entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with New Orleans in 2010. Ross totaled 140 tackles with 18.5 stops for a loss and 8.5 sacks in 52 games with 42 starts for the Pirates.

The addition of Ross gives Buffalo a pair of defensive tackle on the eight-man practice squad joining DT Lionel Dotson. The Bills are currently nicked up at the defensive tackle position with Kyle Williams out for Sunday’s game against Washington and possibly the following week as well with a persistent foot injury.

"It's just kind of week to week," said Williams in reference to his foot injury as he was still donning a walking boot. "We'll re-evaluate at some point and see where it's at."

Second-year DT Torell Troup has also been less than 100 percent as he has been dealing with lower back problems since the season opener.

To make room for Ross Buffalo released WR Tim Toone from the practice squad.
