Bills bring back RB White; Nelson to I-R

Posted Sep 11, 2012

The Bills lost one of their top three receivers for the rest of the season in David Nelson after his ACL knee injury in Week 1. Chan Gailey and his offensive staff are apparently comfortable with what they have at wideout, as they chose to bolster the running back position Tuesday signing Johnny White.

The former fifth-round pick was added to the 53-man roster after Nelson was placed on injured reserve. With Fred Jackson out for the foreseeable future with a knee injury of his own, the Bills chose to add a third running back behind C.J. Spiller and Tashard Choice.

Jackson will miss at least the next three games, but his exact prognosis is unclear. Gailey estimated it’ll be between three and eight weeks.

White (5’10” 202) knows Buffalo’s offense having been in it since 2011 as a former fifth-round draft choice. He appeared in 12 games for the Bills as a rookie, primarily on special teams.

The second-year back was limited in training camp by a persistent ankle injury while with the Bills this summer posting just 12 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown in four preseason games.

White will wear jersey number 29, with Choice now wearing 20.
