Buffalo Bills fans have once again proven why they are the best fans in the National Football League! By taking part in the Bud Light Good Sport program at New Era Field and on social media this season, fans helped the Bills earn the Responsibility Bowl title for the third year in a row. The Responsibility Bowl is an annual competition which aims to promote responsible drinking and fan behavior around the league. Throughout the season, NFL teams compete to gain support for their designated driver programs. Fans showed their dedication by pledging to be designated drivers on game days at New Era Field and by sharing the #BillsFansNeverDriveDrunk hashtag on Twitter and Facebook. By signing up for the Bud Light Good Sport program, Bills fans are taking the pledge to remain sober on game days and to ensure that their friends and family, who they are attending the game with, get home safely.
Coming into the 2016 season, the Bills—two-time Responsibility Bowl champs—felt strongly about the campaign. Kicking off the competition against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Bills cruised to a victory with 17,232 total points over Cincinnati’s 1,452. The point system is determined by designated driver signups, as well as social media mentions. The total number of signups is multiplied by six and each social media mention counts as an additional extra point.
The Bills defeated the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots in later rounds to advance to the championship against the Seattle Seahawks. Finishing with 13,276 points compared to Seattle’s 13,098, the Bills were victorious. Bills fans did their part to spread additional awareness for the Bud Light Good Sport program through their involvement in Facebook and Twitter sweepstakes.
Both initiatives proved successful and helped the Bills on their quest to take home the championship. Kenneth Sprecher, winner of the Twitter sweepstakes, was thrilled to receive a Bills game day experience complete with tickets and pregame on-field passes to Buffalo’s last home game against the Dolphins.
“I was the winner of the #BillsFansNeverDriveDrunkSweeps” said Sprecher. “You went above and beyond with the great seats and the pregame field passes. We have been to four Bills games in the past two years and this was by far the best experience.”
The Bills capped the 2016-17 season with 21,487 fans who took the pledge to be a designated driver. The accomplishment is one that the Bills take great pride in as they continuously strive toward excellence both on and off the field. Additionally, the Bills came in second place for overall signups behind the New England Patriots who finished with 22,466 on the season.
“Our valued Bills fans support responsible, respectful and courteous fan behavior on game days, and we thank the greatest fans in the NFL for their team record number of pledges to be a designated driver,” said Andy Major, Buffalo Bills vice president of operations and guest experience. “Our fans’ third straight victory in the Responsibility Bowl Championship shows that Bills fans truly care about their fellow fan’s game day experience, and this helps create a positive responsibility message for all fans to follow. The Bills have made great strides over the past few seasons with a significant reduction in incidents to help improve the Fan Experience, and TEAM Coalition and MADD are tremendous partners in these important responsibility messaging programs.”
