Bills release QB Young

He looked like a viable option to back up starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick when he was signed last spring as a free agent. Veteran signal caller Vince Young had a 39-19 record as a starter in the NFL and still possessed uncommon athletic ability. Unfortunately for Young he couldn’t effectively execute Buffalo’s offense with enough consistency to earn the job and the club released him Monday.

Young tweeted well wishes to the Bills organization late Monday morning.

Just over a week ago Young had a promising preseason performance against the Minnesota Vikings in which he went 8-14 passing for 123 yards and looked relatively comfortable in Chan Gailey’s offensive system.

Young’s performance earned him the opportunity to cement the backup job as he was given all the snaps with the second unit last Saturday, but a 12-26 passing performance that included a pair of interceptions proved to be his undoing. He had a preseason quarterback rating of 48.2.
