Bills rookie cornerback
“He had surgery and they said it went extremely well and we’ll see where this takes us from here,” said Gailey.
Brooks was injured in practice last Tuesday when he was stepped on by a teammate. Brooks left the workout walking off the field under his own power, but did not make the trip to Detroit for the team’s last preseason game against the Lions.
Gailey confirmed that Brooks will be a candidate for the injured reserve exception in which a player placed on I-R can be recalled to the active roster once healthy again.
The rookie cornerback was named to the team’s 53-man roster Friday night because the Bills have to wait until end of business Tuesday to place him on injured reserve and have him eligible to be recalled.
Under the rules Brooks would have to be designated as the pull-back player at the time he’s placed on injured reserve.
Brooks had a solid training camp and preseason and made his share of plays with six tackles, three pass breakups and an interception in three games. Now he’ll be forced to wait to make his NFL regular season debut for the Bills.
