The Bills quarterback talks about the 37-14 win over the Jets.

How did it feel to get a win in front of the home crowd this week after a few losses?

It was great. It was a huge momentum swing for us. Obviously it was a team victory for us today. The defense played lights out, as they usually do. The bigger thing for our offense is we just have to do our job and we did a good job executing today.

What do you think the biggest difference in your game today was from last week to this week?

Just playing more confident. Knowing where I’m going with the ball and just letting it rip. That’s it.

What do you think you showed today by playing in these weather conditions?

We practiced in it Wednesday and Thursday so it wasn’t a problem. When you’re playing football you really don’t think about the wind or the cold or anything. You make plays.

Explain the back to back deep passes into the wind to WR T.J. Graham and WR Marquise Goodwin for the touchdown.

We just trusted our receivers. T.J. and Marquise both did a huge job, a great job stepping up for us this week with Woody (WR Robert Woods) and Stevie (Johnson) being injured,. So both guys, we’re very thankful that they came out and they were focused they were ready to go. They knew that the ball was coming to them and made great plays for us.

What level of satisfaction did you get from having a collective effort from both the offense and defense?

I think we had a great game both sides of the ball, special teams as well. Brian (Moorman) did a great job as well as Carp (Dan Carpenter) did a good job with the field goals. It was a total team victory for us today.

What was said by the veterans before the game on the way you needed to play?

The biggest thing that Fred (Jackson) told us was try to go out there and get our respect. I think that was a huge thing for us. We carried that onto the field and that’s what helped us play a lot more aggressive.

Do you think this will be a game that you look back on and say, “That’s what I can do in the NFL”?

I don’t worry about that. I just go out there and try to win the game. Try to help my team and do my job as a quarterback and execute the offense. I don’t worry about what people have to say. Just go out there and continue to play hard.

You didn’t seem to care about the comparisons to Geno Smith.

You’re going to always be compared to somebody else. Somebody else that looks like you, or plays like you, or has similar size. That’s a given. Like I said, I try to just go out there and play my game. I don’t try to be somebody else. Just play my game. My teammates around me made huge plays. That allows me to look good. That allows me to look good. When those guys are doing a great job up front that gives me a lot more time to throw the ball down the field.

How did having Coach (Nathaniel) Hackett on the field today help you most?

Just being able to look him in the eye. I haven’t had face to face to communication, instead of being on a mic or a telephone or things like that. It was really good having him down there. He’s not going back up. He’ll be down there for the rest of my career.

Would you say in terms of series (the communication was better)?

Just overall. When I looked to the sideline to see my guy over there, and it’s no offense to, offensive quality control coach, (Jason) Vrable. Vrable’s the same way, but when I see coach (Hackett) over there, ‘Hey let’s go out here and play.’ It’s just like practice, just go out there and let it fly.

You had him (Hackett) jumping around on the sidelines.

And that’s what he brings to the sideline. He brings that energy and that’s what we needed.

Do you want to play in the wind all the time now?

Whatever the weather we’ve got to handle it. Just got to go out there and play. I think our next game is indoors so that’s the next one we’ve got to tackle and be ready for.

Can you talk about the play of Goodwin today?

Marquise is a guy you want to get him the ball. Not just the deep ball but he can also run great routes across the middle, the same as TJ. Those guys are very good vertical receivers. They just happen to have a lot of speed. People think you can only throw deep balls to them but they run great routes across the middle too. Like I said, they stepped up huge for us today.

On the touchdown to T.J., did the ball come out of your hand ok and the wind just took it?

It was an all-out blitz so I think it was more so giving TJ a chance and he came back for it and scored. That was T.J. making a great play on the ball.

So you got hit as you threw that ball?

Did you feel that the Jets would define you in the second half to beat them deep?

No, I don’t think so. I think every team has played us very similar. I don’t think it was just the Jets feeling like we couldn’t throw the ball deep. I think it was something that we saw we could take advantage of and we did.
