Edwards to I-R; Bills sign TE

Posted Dec 2, 2010

The Bills lost a valuable veteran defensive presence for the season Thursday as they placed Dwan Edwards on injured reserve. Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Edwards was a reliable performer in Buffalo’s new 3-4 defensive scheme.

“It was a bad injury and he wasn’t going to make it back," said head coach Chan Gailey. "If he made it back for the last (game)... he might’ve gotten back for the last two (games) and he still wouldn’t have been 100 percent and with the chance to hurt it again that wouldn’t be smart on our part.”

Edwards suffered a severe hamstring injury in last Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh and head coach Chan Gailey did not rule out injured reserve as a possible destination for the six-year vet earlier in the week.

Appearing in all of the team’s first 11 games, Edwards was the team’s fourth-leading tackler with 59 along with a forced fumble and an interception.

Bills sign TE
With pass catching tight end Shawn Nelson battling migraine headaches, the Bills signed free agent rookie tight end Mike Caussin.

Caussin joins the Bills after spending the first 12 weeks of the 2010 season on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad. The 6-5, 252-pound tight end originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jaguars this past April. The James Madison product finished his college career with 66 receptions for 1,009 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He’ll wear jersey number 82.
