It’s been a week of uncertainty for Buffalo’s run game, and as far as the availability of
“Jackson and Spiller are both questionable, 50-50 and I think they both have a legitimate chance,” said head coach Chan Gailey following Friday’s practice. “Both were limited today.”
Gailey was surprised that Spiller was able to practice Thursday and Friday after sustaining a sprained shoulder last Sunday against Cleveland. At the beginning of the week he thought it was unlikely that Spiller would play this week, but was pleased the dynamic back could participate late in the week.
“It was great to get Spiller back in practice because it keeps our Wildcat stuff alive,” he said.
Spiller did not speak with the media, but on his way off the practice field when asked how he was feeling, raised his right arm and put his thumb up on the way to the training room.
As for Jackson, the veteran sounded much more encouraged about his prospects for playing than he did Thursday and fully intends to be on the field Sunday.
“It got better as the day went on so that’s always good,” said Jackson following Friday’s practice. “It felt good yesterday too after practice.”
He feels his sprained knee has reached a turning point.
“It was a little sorer earlier in the week, but it feels better now,” said Jackson. “We’ll do some stuff today and again tomorrow to see if I can get it even better and more ready to go, but I’m excited about it. It did come to a point where it started feeling better so I think I’ll be ready to go.”
While he is still experiencing soreness in the knee, Jackson confirmed that he has received medical clearance to play on Sunday.
“I talked with the doctor today and he said as long as I feel capable of going he’s going to support what I want to do,” he said.
The emotional leader of the team, Jackson is just happy he’ll have the chance to contribute to the effort Sunday.
“It’s good. This is a big game for us. It’s another division game,” he said. “We’re 0-1 in the division and this is a good opportunity to make up some ground. It’s good to have that ability to go out there and help my team. So I’m excited about it and hopefully we can go out and get a ‘W.’”
