Wednesday night both the Bills’ practices and the John Murphy Show made their last appearances at St. John Fisher College. There were a lot of surprises on the field with some wildcat packages being displayed, as well as some “desperation plays,” as Mark Kelso put it. The big surprise on the radio was Jim Kelly jumping in for some sideline commentary.
The Bills Hall of Fame quarterback said he has actually been very impressed with the two backup QB’s and feels it’s a decision that will come down to the wire. His advice for the current signal caller, Ryan Fitzpatrick, was to not always try for the big play and sometimes just settle for what the defense is giving. Kelly also gave his thoughts on the no-huddle offense, saying what this Bills team is lacking that his K-Gun offense had is a faster tempo, which wears down the defense quicker.
John Murphy and Mark Kelso ended the broadcast by giving their camp M.V.P. awards. Kelso said the one player who has separated himself is rookie cornerback Ron Brooks, who has displayed great athleticism and understanding of the pro game for a first year player. Murph selected Bryan Scott for his transformation into a full-time linebacker, and the effort he constantly has given.
