Kelsay leaves practice with neck injury

Posted Nov 8, 2012

Practice had only been underway for about 15 minutes, but veteran defensive end Chris Kelsay was already headed to the locker room Thursday.

Accompanied by an athletic trainer, Kelsay walked off the practice field under his own power, but looked very stiff. The injury occurred during the individual position drill portion of practice.

“Kelsay got hurt in practice and could not finish,” said head coach Chan Gailey following pracitce Thursday. “They’re doing more tests and we’ll know more tomorrow.”

Kelsay has been remarkably durable during his 10-year NFL career missing only six out of 152 games.

Buffalo is already down a starting defensive end in Mark Anderson, who is still a couple of weeks away from returning to the lineup after sustaining a knee injury in Week 5. Kelsay was his replacement in the starting lineup.

Tied for second on the team in sacks, Kelsay also has a safety to his credit this season. If his status for Sunday’s game at New England is in doubt, Kyle Moore and veteran Shawne Merriman figure to see a lot more playing time.

However, Merriman was also added to the injury report Thursday with a chest injury. He was limited in practice.
