At each home game during the 2017 season, the Buffalo Bills will honor a military member during the game’s third quarter break, presented by BENRUS. The Buffalo Bills will honor a military member each home game during the third quarter break, presented by BENRUS, a legendary brand with rich military history. During the Week 1 home opener game against the New York Jets, Master Sergeant Michael Russell and Master Sergeant Jamie Swift were recognized.

Born and raised in Buffalo, Master Sergeant Russell has loyally followed the Bills for his entire life. After enlisting in the United States Army in 1997 as a Combat Engineer, Russell has been deployed all over the world including numerous tours to Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan. Master Sergeant Russell is currently stationed in Fort Carson and looks forward to retiring in March 2018.

Although originally from Portville, New York, Master Sergeant Swift has always felt at home at a Buffalo Bills game. He enlisted in the United States Army as a Combat Engineer in 1995. After graduating from Basic Training from Fort Leonard Wood, Swift embarked on many overseas tours to locations including Bosnia, Albania, Kosovo and Iraq. After 22 years of dedicated service, Swift will retire in May 2018.

When Master Sergeant Russell and Master Sergeant Swift stepped onto the field during the third quarter break, the crowd rose and erupted in applause. As dedicated Bills fans, Master Sergeant Russell and Master Sergeant Swift felt thrilled and honored to receive such recognition.

“It means a lot to be here at the home opener and everything they did for us to get here,” stated Russell.

The entire experience was one of a kind for Master Sergeant Russell and Master Sergeant Swift. To be able to attend the game, something they normally would not be able to do, and to be recognized by the entire stadium for their decades of service, will be a memory they will cherish forever.
