Support Jim Kelly in his weekend of hope

Posted Feb 12, 2014

Via online auction and this weekend's Hunter's Hope Day of Hope and Prayer for Children, support a cause that's close to the hearts of Jim Kelly, the Bills, and the people of Western New York.

As Jim Kelly continues to fight for awareness and prevention of Krabbe Leukodystrophy, providing encouragement for children and their families inflicted by the disease, he’ll kick off a weekend of hope and charity that he’s inviting all to be a part of.

Kelly’s Hunter’s Hope Foundation will host the annual Hunter’s Day of Hope and Prayer for Children event this Saturday, February 15th from 1-4 p.m.  Admission is free and guests of all ages are invited for food, games, prizes and special guests on a day of family fun in the Healthy Zone Fieldhouse at One Bills Drive.

Hunter’s Hope has also partnered with WGR 550 to host an online auction to raise funds and awareness for their mission. Items include a number of Bills items and experiences, a trip to Costa Rica, a weekend in Toronto to see the Blue Jays play the Red Sox and much more, but the auction ends TODAY at 6 p.m. with items closing throughout the day, so check out the items NOW and bid on great prizes for a cause near and dear to the heart of Kelly, the Buffalo Bills, and the Western New York community.

“Not only does the work Hunter’s Hope does save these kids’ lives, but their quality of life is much better than it would have been otherwise,” said Kelly’s friend and former teammate Steve Tasker on WGR 550. “As we all know, Jim’s son Hunter was never able to live the life that so many of us take for granted. Through the research and the work that Jim and the Foundation have done, so many kids have gotten the chance to experience so much more than Hunter ever could. It’s amazing.”

The date of this Saturday’s eventfalls annually on the closest Saturday to February 14th, the birthday of both Jim Kelly and his son Hunter who fought the disease for eight years. It’s been named the Hunter’s Hope Day of Hope and Prayer for Children in New York State, which is just one example of the awareness Kelly and his family seek to generate through their foundation.

“I’m one person,” said Kelly. “Thank you to all the people who have helped Hunter’s Hope and our staff who work so hard every day to make a difference for the kids out there who we don’t want to suffer, who can hopefully dream like I was able to do as a little boy.”

“From laws being passed to facilities being built to research being done, the things Jim and his family have done have made lives better for a lot of people,” added Tasker. “I’m really proud of Jim and all he’s done. I shake my head in disbelief at how much they’ve actually gotten done and the difference that’s been made.”
