WRs Matthews and Thompson active for Bills

Posted Oct 22, 2017

WR Jordan Matthews returns to Buffalo's lineup today much earlier than expected, and will be joined by a new addition at receiver against Tampa Bay.

Buffalo’s passing game was dealt a couple of recent blows with injuries to Charles Clay and Jordan Matthews. However, the Bills will have one of those weapons back in the lineup today against Tampa Bay.

Jordan Matthews is active and will play less than three weeks removed from thumb surgery. Matthews practiced on a limited basis Wednesday and Thursday and was a full practice participant on Friday.

“For the most part, if I’m out there catching balls I feel like I can go out there and play,” said Matthews this week. “So I want to be able to go out there and run and get right back into it with my guys.”

Matthews, who was listed as questionable, is third on the team in receptions and receiving yards after missing the Week 5 game at Cincinnati.

The Bills receiving corps will also have a new weapon in Deonte Thompson. The receiver was signed on Tuesday and was quick on the uptake with Buffalo’s offensive scheme.

“It’s pretty familiar to me,” said Thompson of the offense. “As I’m hearing it, it’s coming back to me pretty much. So it’s just a matter of picking it all up.”

Cornerbacks E.J. Gaines and Leonard Johnson, who were both listed as questionable are also active for today's game.

Miller, Thornton among inactives
With Matthews and Thompson active, Kaelin Clay is inactive for the Bills today.

Joining Clay are guard John Miller, defensive tackle Cedric Thornton, offensive tackles Seantrel Henderson and Conor McDermott, linebacker Ramon Humber and tight end Charles Clay.

Miller’s status means that for the second straight game it will be Vladimir Ducasse starting at right guard.
