What the newest Bills are saying

Posted Mar 15, 2018

Following the five free agent acquisitions the Buffalo Bills made on Wednesday, the team made the newest players available to the media. Here’s what the brand-new Bills had to say as they’ve touched down in Orchard Park.

Safety Rafael Bush
Q: So, why Buffalo? What brought you here?

A: It’s family-oriented. I’m a family man. It’s something that I look forward to. They believe in my skill set and gave me an opportunity and I’m thankful for it.

Q: This team isn’t shy about using veterans on special teams. Can you outline your strengths in that phase of the game?

A: I’m here to do whatever they need me to do. There’s no egos here. You have to be able to take what people give you and not take it for granted. I don’t take this opportunity for granted.

Quarterback AJ McCarron

Q: How did it feel to be able to choose your own team?

A: It’s just part of the process. It’s awesome to be here now. I’m truly blessed to be a part of the Bills Mafia. I just can’t wait. I really can’t.

Q: How much do you know about this Bills offense that you're stepping in to?

A: I know you have some unbelievable players around you. With Shady [LeSean McCoy], with Benji [Kelvin Benjamin]. Then guys on the O-Line. Now you have Chris Ivory who's a part of it. Then Zay Jones, he texted me earlier. I think it's an awesome situation. I'm super pumped.

Defensive End Trent Murphy
Q: Why for you was this the place?

A: I mean, this is home for me now. I think they expressed the most interest. I looked into who the Bills are, coming off an opportunity at the playoffs, and what they’re trying to build with the culture here. I was super excited to join the cause. I think it was a perfect fit for me.

Q: There were reports that a bunch of teams were interested. What sense did you have on that and how does it make you feel knowing there was bidding on you?

A: I definitely took a lot of pride that everyone recognized the work and caliber of player I was, even after the injury in the offseason and how many teams expressed interest. For me, the Bills were the most aggressive. It’s where I wanted to be. It was a no-brainer. That’s why we got through it so quick.

Defensive Tackle Star Lotulelei
Q: Brandon [Beane] and Sean [McDermott] must’ve been part of the reason, but what else brought you here?

A: A couple of different things, but mostly just being familiar with the defensive scheme. Not having to go to a different team and learning a whole new playbook. That was probably the biggest thing, was just being real familiar with the playbook here.

Q: How’s your relationship with McDermott and Beane?

A: It’s a good relationship. I enjoyed the time I had with coach McDermott in Carolina. He was a great coach, so to be here and to get a chance to play for him again is part of why I decided to come here.

Linebacker Julian Stanford
Q: What made Buffalo a fit for you?

A: I just thought it was a great opportunity. I like the way the organization is here. I like the culture here. I like the staff, from top to bottom it’s a first-class organization. Then, they have the best fan base in football. I think this is a good fit for me.
