Bills release five ahead of NFL's roster deadline

Posted Aug 31, 2013

The Bills released five players ahead of the NFL's 6 p.m. 53-man roster deadline.

The Bills made the final necessary moves to reduce the roster by the league's 6 p.m. deadline Saturday with the release of five players. The most notable of the group was veteran LB Bryan Scott. Buffalo also waived DE/OLB Jamie Blatnick, DE Izaan Cross, QB Thad Lewis and DT Torell Troup.

The Bills yesterday released 18 players and put three more on Injured Reserve. All told, the Bills now have three open roster spots, with 50 players counting against the 2013 roster.

Scott has spent the last six seasons with the Bills appearing in 87 games for Buffalo. A safety who was transitioned to a subpackage linebacker the past two seasons, Scott posted a career high in interceptions last season (4).

He was beaten out for a reserve inside linebacker role by Marcus Dowtin.

Torell Troup was a former second-round pick of the Bills in 2010, but was plagued by injuries in his young career. He has not appeared in a game for Buffalo since the 2011 season due mainly to persistent back problems.

DE/OLB Jamie Blatnick showed flashes of pass rush ability in the preseason and DL Izaan Cross demonstrated some ability as well. Both could be considerations for the practice squad.

QB Thad Lewis was acquired in a trade with Detroit last weekend. He too could be a consideration for the practice squad
