Bills sign Asst. GM Doug Whaley to extension

Posted Feb 23, 2013

Bills President and CEO Russ Brandon has said more than once this offseason that Assistant General Manager Doug Whaley is not going anywhere. On Saturday the organization made good on that promise, signing Whaley to a contract extension.

"I am happy that we have secured Doug's services into the future and look forward to a smooth transition of the position when the time comes," said Bills GM Buddy Nix.

It has long been accepted that Whaley will succeed Nix as general manager of the club when Nix decides to call it a career as Buffalo’s chief personnel boss. Brandon however, gave no indication that such a transition would happen any time soon.

"We are very pleased with the structure of our football operation and look forward to working with Buddy, Doug and the entire staff for many years to come,” said Brandon. “As we have stated previously, there is no timetable for the transition. Our focus continues to be on building the foundation for a winning program."

Whaley has been with the organization since 2010 initially serving as Assistant GM and Director of Pro Personnel. He was promoted last year to Director of Player Personnel as his duties were expanded to oversee Pro Personnel and the College Scouting Department.
