CB Brandon Burton signed to Bills active roster

Posted Sep 1, 2013

Buffalo addressed a need at cornerback with a waivers claim on Sunday.

With three open roster spots, and a need at cornerback, the Bills moved quickly Sunday to bring in new talent.

The team announced that they were awarded CB Brandon Burton via waivers. Burton was just released by the Minnesota Vikings on the final cutdown Saturday. The Bills placed him on their 53-man roster after being awarded the waiver claim.

Burton was Minnesota’s fifth round draft pick in 2011 from Utah. He played in four games in his rookie season, with one start. Burton did not start a game in 2012 for the Vikings, but saw action in ten games.

The 24-year old cornerback stands 6-0 and weighs 190 pounds. He was clocked at 4.53 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine two years ago.

The Bills were in desperate need of cornerback help, with only four healthy corners on the roster after the final cutdown Saturday. With Stephon Gilmore on the shelf with a broken wrist, the Bills were left with Leodis McKelvin, Justin Rogers, Ron Brooks, and rookie Nickel Robey as the only healthy cornerbacks. Brooks plays primarily as a nickel cornerback for the team, so it figures that Burton will be called upon to back up the outside CBs.

Burton, a native of League City, Texas, will wear number 29 for the Bills.
