CB Johnny Adams promoted, DT Jay Ross released

Posted Sep 10, 2013

Buffalo promoted DB Johnny Adams and released DL Jay Ross on Tuesday.

The dearth of healthy cornerbacks on Buffalo’s roster prompted a couple of roster moves by the Bills on Tuesday. The club cut DT Jay Ross and promoted CB Johnny Adams from the practice squad.

Second-year cornerback Ron Brooks sustained a broken foot in last Sunday’s game and underwent surgery Tuesday. It’s the same foot he broke as a rookie, which last year required the insertion of a screw. With Brooks out indefinitely and Stephon Gilmore still working his way back from a fracture hand, Buffalo had just four healthy cornerbacks.

Adams, a rookie, was just signed to the Bills practice squad just over a week ago. The Michigan State product went undrafted this past spring and initially signed with Houston. After being released Adams (5’11” 177) signed with Indianapolis where he competed in training camp, but was cut Aug. 26th.

At Michigan State Adams started 39 games and had 11 interceptions in his career.

“I believe if you have players on your practice squad you bring them up and then you go out and find players for your practice squad,” said head coach Doug Marrone.
