With organized team activities out of the way and mandatory minicamp just around the corner, Bills head coach Doug Marrone and his staff got their first look at St. John Fisher College on Monday, where the Bills will host training camp in late July.
The preseason home of the Bills since 2000, St. John Fisher sits in a suburb of Rochester, N.Y., about 90 miles East of Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Marrone and his full staff, along with Bills President/CEO Russ Brandon, General Manager Doug Whaley, and a host of team personnel, spent the afternoon getting an A-to-Z run through of the campus.
“When we get here at the end of July, it needs to be a seamless transition logistically,” said Brandon, a Fisher graduate. “With everything that effects football, we need to make sure we have 100% commitment and that it’s an all-in mentality.”
From practice fields and dining halls to staff dorm rooms and team meeting areas, St. John Fisher and Buffalo Bills staff familiar with the layout briefed Marrone on a camp setup that has been regarded as one of the NFL’s best.
“I don’t think you could create a better scenario than what we have here,” said Marrone on the player- and coach-friendly design. “I’ve been around (the NFL), and the facilities are outstanding. I think it’s a great opportunity for the fans to get out and watch us practice.”
In addition to open practices, merchandise and concession areas will be accessible to fans through the duration of camp. Team autograph sessions and interactive gaming areas are also a highlight, creating an atmosphere that caters to football fans of all ages. Although the full 2013 training camp schedule is still being finalized, check back soon to plan your visit and learn more about the preseason home of the Buffalo Bills.
“As a parent I’m always looking for things to do with the family, whether it be early in the morning, or an afternoon practice, or a night practice,” added Marrone. “This type of atmosphere for our sport is probably the greatest family time you could spend together with your son or your daughter.”
