Thad Lewis: "That's what we're supposed to do"

Posted Oct 20, 2013

Bills quarterback not only lead the Bills to a 23-21 victory in Miami for his first NFL victory, but he did it in his hometown.

Buffalo Bills QB Thad Lewis
(On coming back home to play) - “It was awesome. I’ve never won here, even in college. I had an opportunity to help this team win and we came together as a team and got a team victory and it feels sweet. Last time we had a bitter taste in our mouth, last week we were so close but this time we got over the hump. That’s what it’s all about, winning. I had about 16, probably more people that I know, but I only had 16 tickets so they didn’t hit me too hard.”

(On Fred Jackson coming back) - “That’s the toughness of this team, relentless effort, relentless pursuit of excellence. Our guys want to win, our guys want to play and you’ve got guys out there playing hurt. I got my helmet knocked off and it didn’t mean anything. Those are the things that you want to do to win. You have to leader like Fred and go out there and keep playing.”

(On the defense getting them some extra chances) - “That’s what it’s all about. It was a team win. If you put all phases of the game together, you’re going to be hard to beat, period. Point blank period. We did that today so we’ve got to continue that. We’ve got a few things we’ve got to work on so it won’t be so close next time. That’s what we’re supposed to do.”

(On the throw to Stevie Johnson) - “It was man coverage and I knew he was going to stick the guy and beat him so they say you have to be tough to play quarterback so I just stood in the pocket knowing that my guy was going to come open. I delivered the ball and just took the hit and that’s what you’re supposed to do. It’s not a big deal and we actually got three points out of that drive.”

(On being extra excited to play the game) - “It’s just fun to come home and you’re ready to play and you’re excited. I’m not a rah-rah guy but when you’re down and out you feel like you have to do something to get the team going so that’s probably what he was talking about.”

(On how many times he’s been in Sun Life Stadium) - “Not a lot. I may have watched a high school game in it. Not a lot of times. When I was coming up, we didn’t go to Dolphins games. We weren’t’ able to afford to go to Dolphins games so I wasn’t here a lot.”

(On the Bills third down success) - “It was just execution. The guys did their jobs today with third down as a big emphasis. In order to keep drives going you’ve got to tip your hat to the guys who made plays, and that’s what they did on third down today.”

(On having to control his emotions playing today) - “I’m a pretty even keeled guy so it’s not like me to get too high or too low, I just stay even keeled. Sometimes when you make a play you’re going to get excited and that’s what you’re supposed to do. You’ve got to let out some emotion and then get back even to where you’re supposed to be. When you stand in the pocket and make the completion and take the hit for your team, you’re just letting them know that you’re all in and I’m going to do whatever it takes to win for you guys.
