Just four days after releasing QB Trent Edwards, the Bills parted ways with another veteran player. Buffalo reached an injury settlement with Kawika Mitchell Friday releasing the veteran linebacker from the team's injured reserve list.

Though they knew they wouldn't have him on the field this season, Mitchell's now former teammates were disappointed to see him go.

"Going into this year looking at our linebacker corps we looked deep," said Paul Posluszny. "We had a lot of guys and unfortunately he gets banged up early and now he’s not with us anymore. So it’s a tough situation any time it happens, but especially with a guy like him that we all respected. He meant a ton to all of us.”

Mitchell was placed on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury in practice the Wednesday before the season opener. The seventh-year linebacker was in the team locker room earlier this week and indicated that he was dealing with an injury that would still take a couple of more months to heal.

The 2009 and 2010 seasons proved to be challenging ones for Mitchell. Last season he suffered a torn quadriceps in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns and missed the last 11 games. This year’s foot injury landed him in the same predicament.

Mitchell appeared in 21 games for the Bills posting 117 tackles, four sacks, a pair of interceptions and two forced fumbles from 2008-2009.
