Bills sign Batten

Posted Jun 3, 2010

A week after getting fifth-round pick Ed Wang under contract, the Bills signed another late round pick Thursday. Sixth-round draft choice Danny Batten signed a multi-year deal with the club at One Bills Drive following the team’s OTA practice.

“It’s just completes everything and now there’s a signature to make everything official,” Batten told Buffalobills.com moments after signing his contract. “I’m very thankful that the Bills reached out and that we were able to work something out. I can definitely rest easier now.”

A defensive end at South Dakota State, Batten has been busy making the transition to outside linebacker in Buffalo’s 3-4 defense.

“It’s been going good,” said Batten. “There are things that I’m learning every single day. We’re installing every single day, but I’m picking it up relatively well and I’m studying all day and all night. So I’m learning the plays and I’m getting it down.”

Batten has been consistently logging reps with the second team defense through the OTA practices the past two weeks, primarily on the strong side. Getting all those snaps has given him the opportunity to review his play on tape.

“It’s huge,” he said. “Being able to critique yourself on film can be the best teacher because you can actually see what you’re doing wrong. You can study all day, but until you go out and do it and learn from your mistakes you’ll never fully learn it. So I’m blessed to have the reps that I’m getting right now.”

Batten is expected to be a prominent player on special teams in his rookie season while serving in a reserve role as an outside linebacker.

Buffalo now has seven draft choices left to sign before training camp opens on July 29th.
