Bills sign TE Martin, G Urbik

Posted Sep 5, 2010

The Bills were scanning the waiver wire to add to their tight end position and offensive line where their numbers were low. On Sunday both positions were addressed as the team has signed free agent TE David Martin and claimed G Kraig Urbik off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Martin spent the 2007-08 seasons with the Miami Dolphins after six years (2001-06) with the Green Bay Packers. In his eight-year NFL career, Martin has recorded 152 catches for 1,519 yards and 14 touchdowns in 101 games with 43 starts. The 6-4, 265-pound Tennessee product originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round (189th overall) draft choice of the Packers in 2001.

Urbik spent the 2009 season with the Steelers and was inactive for each game. The 6-5, 323-pound Wisconsin product originally entered the NFL as a third-round (79th overall) draft choice of Pittsburgh in 2009. At Wisconsin, Urbik started 50 games, earning All-Big Ten Conference honors in 2007 and 2008.

To make room for the two new additions on the roster the Bills also announced that the team has released DB Dominique Harris and TE J.P. Foschi.

With the release of Foschi the team is back down to just two tight ends. Urbik gives Buffalo eight offensive linemen.

Four named to practice squad

The team also announced that the following four players have been placed on the practice squad:

RB Joique Bell

FB Rodney Ferguson

WR Naaman Roosevelt

T Jason Watkins

The practice squad can carry a maximum number of eight players.
