Daye appointed asst. to head coach

The Buffalo Bills made another addition to their front office staff as Daryl Daye was hired as Assistant to the head coach Friday.

Daye’s responsibilities will include assisting head coach Chan Gailey in the team’s day-to-day administrative operation as well as several training camp and travel duties.

Daye enters his first season in the NFL after almost 25 years of college football experience. He most recently served as defensive coordinator, special teams coach and linebackers coach for Missouri Southern. Under Daye the Lions’ led the MIAA conference in pass defense in back-to-back seasons (2007-08) and led the conference in total defense in 2007. His defensive units forced a total of 113 turnovers in four seasons at the Division II school.

Daye also has head coaching experience serving as the sideline boss at Nicholls State where he was named Southland Conference Coach of the year in 2002. His 2003 squad reached the Conference Championship game breaking 32 school records in the process.

Prior to that Daye served for eight seasons under former NFL Coach of the Year Sam Rutigliano at Liberty University where he was the team’s defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.

His coaching career began at LSU in 1986 where he played and coached under Bill Arnsparger, the architect of the Miami Dolphins “No-Name Defense” in the early 1970’s.

Daye also had coaching stints at Southern University and Southern Miss.
