Whaley named Asst. GM/Director Pro Personnel

Posted Feb 10, 2010

The Bills addressed a vacancy in their front office Wednesday announcing the hiring of Doug Whaley, who was named Assistant General Manager/Director of Pro Personnel. Whaley will have a multi-faceted role with respect to football operations.

He will oversee the franchise’s pro personnel department as well as assist General Manager Buddy Nix in all football-related administrative duties and in the college talent evaluation process.

Whaley comes to Buffalo after spending 11 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the last 10 of which were as the club’s Pro Scouting Coordinator where he was responsible for advance scouting of the Steelers’ opponents. His focus was breaking down opposing players for the team’s upcoming opponents.

He was also responsible for making campus visits and scouting college players throughout the year. Whaley also evaluated unrestricted and restricted free agents throughout the season and into the free agent offseason period.

Prior to joining Pittsburgh, Whaley served as an east coast area scout for the Seattle Seahawks from 1996-98. Whaley started his career in 1995 as an assistant in the Steelers’ pro personnel department.

Whaley is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. and was a four-year letter winner as a safety and linebacker for the University of Pittsburgh from 1990-93.
