Smith enters his third season with the Buffalo Bills in 2012.  in 2010, Smith assisted in the emergence of DT Kyle Williams into one of the premier defensive tackles in the league.

     Smith enters his third season with the Buffalo Bills in 2012.  in 2010, Smith assisted in the emergence of DT Kyle Williams into one of the premier defensive tackles in the league.
     In 2011, rookie defensive tackle Marcell Dareus led the team with 5.5 sacks and tallied 43 total tackles, including 10 tackles for a loss.
     Under Smith, Williams earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2010.  In 2010, Williams also led the team and posted a career-best 5.5 sacks; he led the team with 16 tackles for loss.

 

     Prior to joining the Bills staff, Smith spent six years (2004-09) at Georgia Tech holding the position of defensive line coach throughout his Yellow Jackets tenure, and added recruiting coordinator responsibilities in 2006.

     Helped guide Georgia Tech to a bowl bid in each of his six years

     In 2007, the Yellow Jackets defense ranked first nationally in sacks and second in tackles-for-loss

     In 2009, coached the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Derrick Morgan

 

     From 1999-2003, Smith was a member of Tulane’s coaching staff, holding multiple titles including Associate Head Coach in his last two years with the Green Wave.

     In 2002, the Green Wave posted an 8-5 record, earning a bowl bid in the Hawaii Bowl where the squad defeated Hawaii 36-28

 

     Smith spent three years (1996-98) at his alma-mater of Georgia Southern as the school’s secondary coach from 1997-98 after coaching the wide receivers in 1996.

     Helped guide the Eagles to a pair of Southern Conference titles in 1997 and 1998

     In 1998, Georgia Southern advanced to the I-AA National Championship contest

 

     For two years (1994-95), Smith served as a graduate assistant on the Georgia Bulldogs staff. In 1995, the Bulldogs played in the Peach Bowl.

 

     Smith began his coaching career at Arkansas from 1991-93. In his first year with the school, the Razorbacks appeared in the Independence Bowl.

 

PERSONAL

     A native of Mableton, GA, Smith attended Pebblebrook High School… inducted into the Georgia Southern Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000… was a member of three NCAA I-AA national championship teams in 1986, 1989 and 1990… a three-time All-America defensive end, Smith helped the Eagles to a perfect 15-0 record in 1989, and in 1990, as a senior, served as a team captain… Smith is married to the former Jennifer Erickson, the couple has two children, Ava and Sam.
