2009:

  • After missing the final 11 games of 2008, Schobel returned to the field for Monday Night Football at NE (9/14) by posting an interception for a touchdown and a sack of Patriots QB Tom Brady.   His sack came on a key third-and-six play at the end of the first quarter as the defense produced its second three-and-out series of the game.  In the second quarter, he gave Buffalo a 14-7 lead when he intercepted a screen pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown.  The play marked Schobel’s first career touchdown and third career interception.   Schobel was the only player to return an interception for a touchdown on Kickoff Weekend 2009 according to NFL.com statistics.  Schobel now has 12.0 career sacks on Tom Brady and has sacked the Patriots QB more than any other player in the NFL. 
  • Vs. NO (9/27), tallied two solo tackles and had a strip-sack of QB Drew Brees, which he recovered… second time in his career with a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery on the same play (vs. NYG, 12/23/07). 
  • At MIA (10/4), recorded four tackles, including three solo, two tackles for a loss, a QB hit and a sack. 
  • At CAR (10/25), had three tackles, one sack, a tackle for a loss, QB hit and pass defensed. 
  • Vs. HOU (11/1), tallied three tackles, three QB hits, a tackle for a loss and his fifth sack of the season. 
  • At JAX (11/22), had two tackles, a tackle for a loss, two QB hits and his sixth sack of the season. 
  • Vs. NYJ (12/3), tallied eight tackles, including five solo, four tackles for a loss, a QB hit and his seventh sack of the season. 
  • At KC (12/13), tallied three tackles, two tackles for a loss, quarterback hit and a pass defensed. 
  • At ATL (12/27), filled up the stat sheet with four tackles, 3.0 sacks, two tackles for a loss, a quarterback hit and two forced fumbles.  Tied his career best with a three-sack performance, it also gave him 10 sacks on the year – his fourth double digit sack season. 

 

2008:

  • Vs. Sea. (9/7), had 1.0 sack, making Matt Hasselbeck the 35th different quarterback taken down in career
  • Had season-high eight tackles at Jac. (9/14)
  • Placed on injured reserve Dec. 11, due to a lingering foot injury which forced him to miss eight previous games

2007:

  • Signed a contract extension on August 24
  • Led the team for the seventh year in sacks with 6.5 and moved into second place in team history with 67.0 sacks
  • Led the team in forced fumbles with five
  • Tied for the team lead with eight tackles for loss (Chris Kelsay)
  • Ranked fourth on the team with a career-high 96 tackles
  • Posted first sack of the season against Ben Roethlisberger at Pit. (9/16)
  • At NE (9/23), shared a sack with linebacker John DiGiorgio of Tom Brady in 3rd quarter, passing Phil Hansen (61.5) for second most sacks in team history… Was his 11th sack of Brady
  • Forced a fumble in the fourth quarter vs. Dal. (10/8), his 12th of his career and first since 12/10/06 at NYJ… FF came on a Tony Romo rush and was the first FF of his career to not occur on a sack play
  • Moved into sole possession of second place (63.0 sacks) on the Bills’ all-time sack chart with takedown at NYJ (10/28)… Forced two fumbles marking his first multi-forced fumble game of his career… Became the first defensive lineman with a multi-FF game since Bruce Smith (9/24/90) also at NYJ
  • Registered a sack at Was. (12/2) on the first play of the second quarter
  • Posted a strip sack enabling Buffalo to recover the ball and run the clock out vs. Mia. (12/9) raising career sack total to 65.0… Was his fourth forced fumble on the year and 15th of career… 13th sack streak of his career
  • Raised career sack total to 66.0, bringing down Derek Anderson at Cle. (12/16) on a 3rd down play forcing a Browns punt… Anderson became the 33rd different quarterback Schobel has sacked… Had a sack in three straight games for 13th sack streak of career… First streak of 3+ games since career-long six-gamer in 2006 (games 10-15)
  • Recorded a strip sack of Eli Manning (34th quarterback sacked in career) vs. NYG (12/23)… Recovered the loose ball marking the first time in his career with a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery on the same play… Was his 67th career sack and his fourth straight game with a sack … Forced fumble was his 16th of his career and fifth on the season, the most by a Bill since his five in 2004… Fumble recovery was the seventh of his career and first since 11/5/06 vs. GB

 

 

2006:

  • Earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl and was voted a starter … 14.0 sacks ranked third in the NFL … finished the season tied for third on the team with 95 tackles … also led the team with three forced fumbles and had one fumble recovery … set a career-high with a six-game sack streak from games 10-15 – the team’s longest streak since Smith’s six-game streak from games 4-9 in 1997
  • At NE (9/10), recorded four tackles and one sack …also had two QB hurries
  • Vs. Min. (10/1), registered seven tackles (three solo) and helped to limit the Vikings to only 63 yards on the ground

GB (11/5), had two sacks on the day, passing Cornelius Bennett for 3rd all-time on the Bills sack list ... the 14th multi-sack game of his career … had a fumble recovery just prior to halftime, stopping Green Bay’s scoring chances … sixth fumble recovery of his career, first this season … also had fives tackles and two breakups along with three QB hits
  • At Hou. (11/19), recorded a sack in the third quarter … also had three tackles and one hit on the QB
  • Vs. SD (12/3), recorded a sack in the second quarter … also forced a fumble on the sack, but Chargers retained possession … his 10th career forced fumble and second of the season … led team with 10 tackles

  • Posted a game-high 2.0 sacks vs. Hou. (9/11) to mark his ninth career multi-sack game; also added two tackles
  • Tallied five tackles, including four solo and recorded a sack for a loss of two yards at Oak. (10/23) …
  • Registered four tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery at NE (10/30); also posted two sacks for a loss of 12 yards, two quarterback pressures and a quarterback hit
  • Recorded two sacks for a loss of 15 yards vs. KC (11/13)

  • Named a Pro Bowl alternate after posting 62 tackles, including 43 unassisted stops, eight sacks, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries…his three fumble recoveries were the most by a Bill since Phil Hansen in 1998 … Closed the 2004 season with fumble recoveries in the final two games, becoming the Bills first defensive linemen with fumble recoveries in consecutive games since Fred Smerlas in 1979.
  • Started the season with four tackles and a QB pressure vs. Jax. (9/12)
  • Registered first sack of the season and had two tackles and a forced fumble at NYJ (10/10)
  • Totaled four tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in win vs. Mia. (10/17)
  • Produced two sacks and a forced fumble to go with five tackles at Bal. (10/24)…posted six tackles vs. Ari. (10/31)

  • Started all 16 games at right defensive end and led the team with 11.5 sacks, including a career-best three sacks at NYG (11/30)…finished the season eighth on the team with 55 tackles (44 solo; five for a loss) and became only the fifth Bill ever to post a 10-sack season
  • Registered a season-high nine tackles (seven solo) and a sack at Mia. (9/21)
  • Posted four tackles (two solo) and 1.5 sacks vs. Phi. (9/28)
  • Recorded the first interception of his career and six tackles (five solo) vs. Cin. (10/5)
  • Recorded two solo tackles and shared a sack vs. Was. (10/19)
  • Tallied two solo tackles, a sack, and a season-high three quarterback pressures at Dal. (11/9)
  • His three sacks of Kerry Collins at NYG (11/30) were a season-best and he also added three QB pressures and hurries in that game…the performance earned him AFC Defensive Player of the Week
  • Recorded the sixth multi-sack game of his career by taking down Billy Volek twice at Ten. (12/14) and also adding four tackles (three solo) in the effort
  • Posted four solo tackles and a sack vs. Mia. (12/21) to become the first defensive lineman to record a sack in four straight games since Bruce Smith had a six-game streak in 1997

 

2002:

  • Started all 16 games at right defensive end in his second professional season…led the team with 8.5 sacks and finished sixth on the team with 83 tackles (58 solo)
  • Recorded the third multi-sack game of his career when he recorded 2.5 sacks of Vikings QB Daunte Culpeper at Min. (9/15)
  • Helped limit Bears to only 52 rushing yards and had five tackles (two solo), one QB pressure and two QB hits vs. Chi. (9/29)
  • Recorded the only sack of the game on Rich Gannon vs. Oak. (10/6)
  • Had a season-high eight tackles (four solo) at Hou. (10/13)
  • Shared the only sack of the game with Grant Irons when they took down quarterback Tom Brady in the fourth quarter vs. NE (11/3)
  • Sacked Drew Brees and had seven tackles (six solo) in win vs. SD (12/15)
  • Had Bills first sack of Brett Favre and recorded four tackles (two solo) at GB (12/22)

 

2001:

  • As a rookie, played in all 16 games and started the last 11 at right defensive end…his 59 tackles ranked second on the Bills among defensive linemen and he led the squad in sacks with 6.5…the sack total tied Bruce Smith for the second-most ever by a Bills rookie and was just two behind the club rookie mark of 8.5 set by Cornelius Bennett in 1987…those 6.5 sacks also put him among the NFL’s rookie sack leaders; only Cincy’s Justin Smith (9.0) and Pittsburgh’s Kendrell Bell (8.5) had more…recorded two multiple sack games and both were against the Patriots (sacked Tom Brady twice in each)
  • Made his NFL debut in the season opener vs. NO (9/9)
  • Recorded a season-best 10 tackles (6 solo) vs. NYJ (10/7)
  • Recorded first NFL sack when he got to Jaguars QB Mark Brunell at Jax. (10/18)
  • Made his first NFL start at RDE and recorded three tackles (2 solo) at SD (10/28)
  • Notched two sacks of Pats QB Tom Brady and recorded four tackles (3 solo) at NE (11/11)
  • Had his second multi-sack game vs. NE (12/16) when he recorded two sacks of Brady and also had nine tackles (5 solo).

 

COLLEGE: Played in 44 games and started 43 in four seasons at TCU... started the team's final 46 contests (including bowl games)...moved into the starting lineup as a freshman and never relinquished the #1 job...ended career with 261 tackles and 53 quarterback pressures for his career...added to his school career-record (set as a junior) with 6.5 sacks as a senior, giving him 31 for his career…in 2000 was a unanimous All-Western Athletic Conference first-team and Defensive Player of the Year pick... as a junior in 1999 was a unanimous All-Western Athletic Conference first-team selection, after  posting a school season-record 10 sacks…originally recruited as an outside linebacker. Majored in kinesiology.

 

PERSONAL: Full name - Aaron R. Schobel (pronounced SHOW-bul)...was a two-time All-District 22-3A selection as both an outside linebacker and tight end at Columbus (TX) High...recorded 105 tackles as a senior and also had 70 receptions for 1,299 yards in his final two seasons...brother, Matt, was a tight end at TCU who is with the Philadelphia Eagles and was a third round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2002 NFL Draft…cousin, Bo, a defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals, also played defensive end for TCU and was a fourth round draft selection in 2004 NFL Draft... his uncle and Bo's father, Bob, also played for TCU football team (1969-71)... Aaron and his wife, June, have two sons, Brock and John, and one daughter, Erika.

 

COMMUNITY: Aaron participated in the 2009 Community Ticket Donation Program by donating season tickets to various community organizations including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo and Ronald McDonald House.  Children and families attended Buffalo Bills home games where they were also treated to food and beverage coupons compliments of Aaron.
