COMMUNITY: In 2009, Eric participated in the Toyota Rookie Club appearing at numerous community events throughout Western New York and Southern Ontario. Each month, Jason and all first year players did one community appearance as a group. During the 2009 season the Toyota Rookie Club events included a visit to Dave & Buster’s, a visit to the Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute Panthers in Toronto, Ontario, a trip to the Northwest Buffalo Community Center to serve Thanksgiving Dinner and the Annual Buffalo Bills Holiday Party for Children.
Eric, along with fellow teammate Andy Levitre, showed support for a local Playground Unveiling in Niagara Falls, NY. Through the Buffalo Bills Youth Foundation, the school was granted a monetary donation for the playground to be built and the day after spring break the students were surprised to find their new playground completely built! Eric was there to help cut the ceremonial ribbon as well as sign autographs and take pictures with the students.
Eric also showed his support to the Play 60 Movement by visiting Armor Elementary in Hamburg, NY which was named the “Play 60 Super School” through the Back to Football Friday Program. Eric participated in the Ultimate Physical Education Class and presented the $10,000 grant to the school so they can continue their health and wellness initiatives.
Eric also participated in the American Red Cross Blood Drive at Ralph Wilson Stadium in November. He visited with donors, signed autographs and posed for pictures. With the help of Eric and the teams support, over 500 units of blood were collected, ultimately saving over 1,500 lives.
Eric was selected to be a part of the 2010 All-Fundamentals Team which is a 26-man roster that honor’s the NFL’s most fundamentally-sound players who commit themselves to service their communities.
Eric supported the Teammates For Kids Foundation this year by attending their annual dinner held in Buffalo in November. Eric along with his other teammates have supported the cause which was co-founded by Garth Brooks and Bo Mitchell over the past 5 years. Eric also supported his teammate Brian Moorman and the PUNT Foundation by attending the Annual Black Tie Gala held in October, which raised over $80,000 benefitting children battling cancer. The Offensive Line teamed up with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Erie County to take 20 young men holiday shopping in December. Eric was amongst the group of players that gave an unforgettable experience to the young men.
Eric also made a donation to his alma mater at Elder High School. The money that he donated helped out his former high school’s football program.
