Bio

The 6-2, 235-pound University of Southern California product entered the NFL as a first-round (ninth overall) draft selection of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008 and spent his first four years with the Bengals before joining the Giants in 2012. He has 262 tackles (171 solo) and three sacks in 62 NFL career games (47 starts).

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Has played in 46 regular-season games with 39 starts and he started the only postseason game in which he played…Career totals include 283 tackles (167 solo), 2.0 sacks, 2 interceptions, 6 passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery…In the playoffs, Rivers had 4 tackles (3 solo).

In his 1st season with the Giants in 2012, Rivers played in 11 games with 6 starts (3 each at strongside and weakside linebacker)…Missed 5 games with a hamstring injury: vs. Tampa Bay (9/16), at Philadelphia (9/30), vs. Cleveland (10/7), vs. Pittsburgh (11/4) and at Cincinnati (11/11)…Was credited with 37 tackles (32 solo), a pass defensed and a fumble recovery on defense and 7 solo tackles on special teams.…Had a season-high 7 tackles (5 solo) in season opener vs. Dallas (9/5)…Recorded 6 solo tackles vs. Washington (10/21) and at Dallas (10/28)…Contributed 2 special teams tackles vs. Green Bay (11/25)…had 5 solo tackles vs. Philadelphia (12/30).

In 2010, Rivers played through painful foot condition (plantar fasciitis) to finish with career-high totals of 15 games played (13 starts) and 95 tackles (46 solo)….Also had 4 passes defensed and a sack… Inactive vs. Baltimore (9/19) due to missed practice time from foot condition…Credited with a career-high 14 tackles, including a 5-yard sack of Seneca Wallace, at Cleveland (10/3) and a team-best 13 tackles at the Jets (11/25)…Had 10 tackles vs. San Diego (12/26)…Tied for team lead with 7 tackles at Baltimore (1/2).

Attended Lake Mary (Fla.) High School, where his multiple All-America football honors included nods from USA Today and Parade…As a senior in 2003, Rivers had 111 tackles, 14 stops for losses, 2 sacks and 2 interceptions…In his junior season, he was a Student Sports Junior All-America and Florida Class 5A second-team choice, as he posted 160 tackles, 11 stops behind the line of scrimmage, including 4 sacks, and 2 interceptions…Made All-State as a sophomore in 2001 when he had 100-plus tackles…Named Gatorade Florida Football Player of the Year as a senior…Born in Riverside, Calif., and lived in nearby San Bernardino for 8 years before his family moved to Florida…Majored in public policy, management and planning at Southern Cal…Born May 5, 1986.
