• Played in all 16 games, making a career-high nine starts as he recorded career-bests in receptions (32) and receiving yards (352 yards) while scoring the first two touchdowns of his career… added 45 yards on 12 rushing attempts and tallied 12 stops on special teams coverage… returned nine kickoffs for 183 yards

• At NYG (10/7) Started and recorded the first touchdown of his career when he caught a 16-yard pass from Chad Pennington…finished the game with three receptions for 44 yards

• Vs. BUF (10/28) Recorded a team-high three special teams tackles

• At MIA (12/2) Hauled in his second touchdown of the year on a 19-yard pass from Kellen Clemens, giving the Jets a lead they would not relinquish

• At TEN (12/23) Set career-highs with five catches for 45 receiving yards

2006

• Saw action in all 16 games making three starts, taking snaps at running back, quarterback and wide receiver…posted 103 rushing yards on 18 carries and caught nine passes for 61 yards… tallied 10 special teams tackles andreturned one kickoff for four yards

• At TEN (9/10) Made NFL debut, hauling in his first-career reception for a 13-yard gain from Chad Pennington…recorded the first rushing attempt of his career for a 12-yard scamper on the last play of the third quarter

• At JAC (10/8) Made the first start of his NFL career, at running back, and carried the ball on the first play of the game for five yards

• Vs. MIA (10/15) Received Jets’ Special Teams Player of the Week honors after a tallying three tackles on special teams

• Vs. CLE (10/29) Took snaps at quarterback, and lined up at wide receiver and running back… finished the game with four yards on three rushing attempts

• At GB (12/3) Lined up as a starting wide receiver in a four-wide set… took a handoff for a 32-yard gain, leading up for a Jets touchdown

• Vs. OAK (12/31) Collected 23 yards on two rushing attempts, including a third-and-two conversion when he took a snap from under center to help set up the first touchdown of the contest four plays later

• At NE (1/7) Made his NFL postseason debut, catching two passes for eight yards

COLLEGE

Became the first player in NCAA history to pass for at least 8,000 yards and run for another 4,000 yards at the University of Missouri… finished his collegiate career fourth on the all-time NCAA career total offense chart with 13,088 yards… holds the program’s career marks in rushing touchdowns (42) and passing scores (56)… with 2,304 passing yards and 1,301 rushing yards in 2005, he became the first NCAA Division I-A player to achieve the 2,000/1,000 mark twice in his career, first came during redshirt year as a freshman in 2002… majored in Business Administration.

PERSONAL

Was a two-time all-state selection and two-time All-City Offensive Player of the Year at Chaney (Youngstown, OH) High School… threw for over 2,700 yards in his career and 34 touchdowns… also rushed for over 1,200 yards and scored 19 times on the ground… an all-city selection in basketball...Smith and his wife, Dr. Rosalynn Smith, have one son, Alex.
