PRO: Selected with the second first round selection (26th overall) by the Bills via a trade with the Chicago Bears in the 2006 Draft…the third of three defensive lineman to be picked from North Carolina State in the opening round after Mario Williams (1st overall to Houston) and Manny Lawson (22nd overall) to San Francisco.

2008:
• Saw first action of season at Jac. (9/14)
• Had a season-high two tackles vs. Oak. (9/21)
• Placed on injured reserve on November 28th due to a back injury.

2007:
• Saw action in all 16 games, posting a career-high 45 tackles and first career fumble recovery, forced fumble and 2.5 sacks
• Tied for third on the team with seven tackles for loss.
• Registered first career sack in Week 1 vs. Den. (9/9)… Took down Jay Cutler for a loss of five yards
• Recorded first career forced fumble and fumble recovery at NE (9/23) during a Tom Brady rush on a goal-to-go situation in the second quarter
• Made a key tackle for loss on Reuben Droughns on a fourth-and-goal rush from the one-yard line in the third quarter vs. NYG (12/23)
• Posted first career multi-sack game at Phi. (12/30)… Second career sack came in the second quarter and split a sack in the fourth quarter

2006:
• At NE (9/10), saw action on five plays in his first professional game, recording one tackle
• At Mia. (9/17) played a third of the defensive plays recording 2 assisted tackles
• vs. NYJ (9/24), recorded three solo tackles
• vs. Min. (10/1), recorded his first career tackle for a loss
• at Chi. (10/8), had season-high four tackles before breaking his foot
• Placed on Injured Reserve, October 14, 2006

COLLEGE: Started 29 of 30 games for the Wolfpack…totaled 134 tackles (88 solos) in collegiate career…recorded 29 tackles for losses of 79 yards and 4 sacks for 24 yards …As a junior,  started 6 of 6 games;  recorded 35 tackles (23 solos);  missed five games due to a stress fracture in his foot. ... As a sophomore was selected Academic All-ACC with 3.07 in the fall semester;  started 10 of 11 games; totaled 47 tackles (32 solos), 5 tackles for losses of 13 yards and 12 quarterback pressures … As a redshirt freshman, started all 13 games;  honorable mention All-ACC choice;  recorded 52 tackles (33 solos), 14 tackles for losses of 40 yards, 3 sacks for 17 yards and led team with 16 quarterback pressures;  earned Freshman All-America honors by The Sporting News;  increased his productivity in the last seven games, tallying 38 tackles and 12 tackles for loss;  recipient of the Carey Brewbaker Award, which was given to the squad's most valuable defensive lineman…strong player who bench pressed 410 pounds and boasted a 300-pound mark in the power clean. … Majored in sports management.

PERSONAL: At Randolph Henry High School under Coach Joe Freeland, recorded 60 tackles (16 for losses) and six sacks as a senior…caused four fumbles, recovered three…had 98 carries for 648 yards and six touchdowns as well as two receptions for nine yards as a fullback…converted 4 of 6 PAT’s…named first-team all-state…also played baseball, basketball and ran track…advanced to state championships in the shot put and discus as a junior, placing fourth in the discus.

COMMUNITY: John participated in the Kids Escaping Drugs Telethon by giving away footballs, autographs, assisting volunteers and answering phones to help support the Telethon.  John also participated in the autograph signing at the Verizon Wireless Store in the McKinley Mall as apart of the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign.  The Campaign was created with the purpose of raising funds for the construction and support of adolescent drug & alcohol treatment facilities.  In addition to his work with K.E.D., John also participated in the 2009 NFL Draft Day Party, meeting season ticket holders, taking pictures and signing autographs.
