PRO: Drafted with the 10th pick of the sixth round (184th overall) in the 2007 draft…the first defensive back taken in the sixth round…was the only Wyoming Cowboy drafted…the second player from the University of Wyoming drafted by the Bills, the first since DT Pat Rabold in 1989.

• Played in all 16 games, mainly on special teams.

2007:
• Led the team with 24 special teams tackles … first rookie to lead the Bills in special teams tackles since Antoine Winfield in 1999 … Was inactive for the first two games of the season but played in the team’s final 14 contests 
• Made NFL debut at NE (9/23)
• In home debut vs. NYJ (9/30), posted a team-high four tackles on special teams
• Posted a team-high two special tackles teams vs. NE (11/18)
• Recovered a muffed punt on the opening drive vs. Mia. (12/9) resulting in the Bills’ first touchdown of the game… Was his first career fumble recovery of any sort of NFL career…Finished with a team-high three tackles on special teams

COLLEGE: Named one of 17 finalists for the Draddy Award, which is awarded annually by the National Football Foundation to the top football scholar-athlete in the country and received an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship in ‘06… …named second-team All-America by College Football News in ‘06…received All-MWC first-team honors in ’06…earned honorable mention All-MWC honors in ’03, ’04, and ’05…was named an Academic All-American in ESPN The Magazine in ‘06…started 37 of 47 games during his career…finished 10th in school history with 259 tackles (151 solos)…was a team captain. … Majored in business administration.

PERSONAL: Attended Rock Springs High School…led the team as a senior to an undefeated season and the Wyoming Class 5A State Championship…named All-State as a senior at three different positions (running back, defensive back and return specialist)…won the State Championship as a junior in the long jump…he is the eldest of two children, younger brother Beau, of Carol and Randal Wendling... married to wife Angela.

COMMUNITY: In 2007, John was a member of the Toyota Rookie Club.  The Toyota Rookie Club helps the franchises newest players become more involved in the Western New York community.  Each month, John and all first year players did one community appearance as a group.  During the 2007 season the Rookie Club visited Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, participated in an assembly at Sir Sanford Fleming Academy in Toronto, ON, served Thanksgiving Dinner at Northwest Buffalo Community Center, and hosted the Annual Bills Holiday Party for children at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Along with James Hardy and Derek Schouman, John participated in the announcement of 12,000 cans of Campbell’s Chunky Soup courtesy of Buffalo Bills fans everywhere being donated to the Food Bank of WNY.  The Bills, Campbell’s Chunky Soup and the NFL donated the cans to the Food Bank of WNY in recognition of the Bills second place finish in the Campbell’s Chunky soup “Click for Cans” Championship.

John also volunteered at the Stone’s Buddies Tree Lighting and Holiday party which helps chronically ill patients and their families at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo celebrate the Holiday season and participated in the Buffalo Bills and American Red Cross Blood Drive.  John also participated in the 2009 NFL Draft Day Party, meeting season ticket holders, taking pictures and signing autographs.
