1. Poyer gets back to baseball roots
Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer is becoming a Buffalo Bisons superfan. After throwing out the first pitch at a game against the Rochester Redwings on May 8, Poyer couldn't stay away. Being on the mound reminded of his days playing the sport. Poyer was drafted to the Miami Marlins after his senior year in high school before deciding to attend Oregon State University, where he played both baseball and football. Poyer reminisced on his baseball career while taking some swings and catching a few fly balls at Bisons batting practice on Wednesday, May 30.
"Thanks for letting me come take some swings... Brought back some great memories!" he exclaimed on an Instagram post.
2. Bills players host youth camps for their hometowns
This weekend will prove a busy one for several Bills players who will be hosting youth football camps in their hometowns on Saturday, June 2. For one of Buffalo's newest wide receivers Jeremy Kerley, a Texas native who is holding his seventh annual football and cheer camp at Hutto High School in Hutto, Texas, the opportunity to give back is one he truly enjoys.
"It makes me happy to be able to give back to the community that has raised me! Our youth are the future, it's important to invest in them and do what we can to support and inspire" said Kerley.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and feature celebrity guests, such as Bilal Powell of the New York Jets and NFL alumnus Clyde Gates. Additionally, the camp will offer high school students a chance to take part is a mock NFL Combine, which will be followed by a 7v7 Tournament.
Bills second-year cornerback Tre'Davious White is putting on his first-ever camp for kids in his hometown Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday. The free event will feature two sessions – one for children ages eight – 12 and the other for those 13-16. With appearances by several NFL players, the camp will also provide each attendee with a t-shirt, autographs and lunch.
Guard John Miller is also having a free camp for boys and girls aged six through 13 at North Miami Beach Senior High School. The camp will give participants an opportunity to work on their football skills, while interacting with Miller who attended the school. The event, which will include food and giveaways, will mark Miller's second-annual.
3. Alexander celebrates his birthday amongst a busy week
Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander is known for his achievements both on the field and in the community. A champion of using his platform to make a difference, Alexander's efforts continued during his birthday week. The 11-year vet paid a visit to Erie High School, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to speak to the school's football team about his story and to lend advice to the budding athletes. During the visit, the Pro Bowler was well-received and the Royals football program took to Twitter to show their appreciation.
4. Groy becomes a father
Linebacker Ryan Groy's wife Sara Groy, gave birth to the couple's first child, Marlee Lyn Groy, this past Sunday, May 27. Marlee entered the world at 7lbs, 3oz, and 21 inches of pure joy and Groy couldn't be prouder. The Bills O-lineman shared his enthusiasm on Instagram.
5. White joins the NFL Network
On Tuesday, May 29, cornerback Tre' Davious White was featured on NFL's "Up to the Minute" with Andrew Siciliano. White spoke about OTAs, discussed the upcoming season and had encouraging words about his new teammates. White's remarks proved promising – especially about Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
6. Humber: Veteran linebacker and recent graduate
Bills linebacker Ramon Humber attended North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he started in 22 of 32 games he played in during his college career. Following his time with NDSU, Humber signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Now entering his 10th season in the NFL, the seasoned pro recently decided to complete the coursework he needed to get his degree. Diligent and hardworking, Humber was able to balance his football schedule with his studies to earn a Bachelor of University Studies degree from his alma mater. Congrats, Ramon!
