With Buffalo's first preseason game fast approaching and down a pair of cornerbacks in Leodis McKelvin and Ross Cockrell due to injury, the Bills signed free agent cornerback Lavelle Westbrooks Tuesday.

Westbrooks, 23, is a former seventh-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals (2014). He was injured in Bengals training camp last summer, waived-injured and ultimately reached an injury settlement with the club.

At 6-0, 185 pounds, Westbrooks is young at the cornerback position having played there in only his final two years of college at Georgia Southern. He played his first two collegiate seasons at safety. Westbrooks had seven interceptions and 20 passes defensed in a 49-game college career that saw him make 41 starts.

Westbrooks participated in the 2014 Senior Bowl, and at the NFL combine posted a 4.63 40-time, a 36-inch vertical, 10-foot one-inch broad jump and 15 reps on the bench press.

To make room on the roster for Westbrooks, the Bills designated Caleb Holley waived-injured.
