Bills claim C Jared Wheeler, waive CB Smith

The Buffalo Bills today announced that the team has claimed and was awarded C Jared Wheeler.

Wheeler was released on July 23 by the Carolina Panthers.

Wheeler joined the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2014 from the University of Miami (FL). Wheeler made six starts in 2013 for the Hurricanes' offensive line. He was named the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame's Unsung Hero for the 2013 season. At 6-5, 315 pounds, Wheeler played in 38 games in his career at Miami.

Wheeler, 23, is a native of Hollywood, FL.

The Bills also announced that CB Brandon Smith has been waived. He has been designated waived/injured.
