Bills depth chart keeps QB race intact

The Buffalo Bills released an unofficial depth chart in advance of their first preseason game Friday against Carolina and naturally all eyes will be focused on how the quarterbacks stack up. Not surprisingly, the Bills have kept the quarterbacks equal in the depth chart listing.

Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel are all listed in the starting spot separated by slash marks. The quarterbacks are listed in order of NFL experience with Cassel listed first with this being his 11th NFL season, followed by Taylor (five years) and Manuel (three years).

Cassel has been tabbed the starter by head coach Rex Ryan for the team's preseason opener against Carolina Friday at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

"We'll start him on Friday and how much work he gets," said Ryan. "We'll see. We're going to get all those guys work through these preseason games. He'll get the first shot just like EJ got in the scrimmage. I'm looking for that consistent guy who is going to be at the top each time out."

The only other instance where a slash listing appears for a starter is at wide receiver with Percy Harvin and Robert Woods both listed as starting receivers opposite Sammy Watkins. Woods is also listed as a backup punt returner to Marcus Thigpen with Leodis McKelvin injured.

The tight end listing behind starter Charles Clay is also interesting with Marqueis Gray the backup and blocking TE Matthew Mulligan third.
