Bills sign five tryout players after minicamp

The Bills had 11 tryout players in for their voluntary veteran minicamp this week and wound up signing almost half of them. Buffalo signed five of the free agents to contracts on Thursday.

The club signed DE Jamie Blatnick, LB Kourtnei Brown, K Chris Koepplin, P Brian Stahovich and FB Frank Summers.

Blatnick (6-3, 253) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos last year. He was released prior to the regular season and spent a portion of the season on the Broncos' practice squad. The Oklahoma State product appeared in 51 games and totaled 118 tackles, 24 stops for a loss and 16.0 sacks in his college career.

Brown (6-4, 253) joined the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2012 before being released prior to the regular season. He was signed to the practice squad of the Washington Redskins last December (12/5/12). He registered 75 tackles and 3.0 sacks in 49 games at Clemson.

Kicker Chris Koepplin (6-3, 210) was signed to the New England Patriots roster back in July of 2011 as a free agent. He was released before the regular season and re-joined the team in April of 2012. The UMASS product was the school's record holder in PAT percentage (98%) and finished second in field goal accuracy (71%) in his two years (2006-07) with the program after transferring from Nassau Community College. He's also played two years for the Manchester Wolves of the Arena Football 2 League (2008-09).

Stahovich (5-11, 197) was signed by Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and was released prior to the regular season. The former San Diego State punter booted 246 punts for a 42.9 average in his collegiate career. He became the third punter to earn first-team All-Mountain West Conference accolades in at least two straight years and the first punter in SDSU history to earn first-team honors in Mountain West history.

Summers (5-9, 248) entered the NFL as a fifth-round (169th overall) draft selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009. He was placed on injured reserve during the 2009 season and spent the 2010 season on the team's practice squad. He also spent time in 2011 on the San Diego practice squad.

He totaled 1,668 rushing yards on 385 carries and 14 touchdowns while adding 36 catches for 402 yards and six touchdowns in two years as a starter at UNLV, but he projects as more of a fullback candidate.
