Prior to Day 2 of OTAs the Bills added another potential option at wide receiver signing undrafted free agent rookie Derek Session. The University of Maine product participated in Buffalo's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and the coaching staff liked his size and versatility. Following another workout Wednesday in front of Buffalo's pro scouts and coaches at One Bills Drive, Session was signed to a contract.
Session (6'1" 225) began his college career as a running back for the Black Bears posting 849 yards and nine touchdowns on 198 carries (4.2 avg.) mostly from 2008-2009. He moved to receiver for his final two collegiate seasons and had 132 catches for 1,364 yards and five touchdowns for Maine over his four-year career.
Clocked in the low 4.5s at his pro day, Session also had 19 reps on the bench and a 35-inch vertical leap. Session played both in the slot and on the boundary at receiver for the Black Bears, earning 2nd Team All Colonial Athletic Association honors in 2011 with Maine advancing to the FCS National Quarterfinals.
He joins a very crowded position group at wide receiver with 11 other wideouts on the Bills roster counting Brad Smith. Third-round pick T.J. Graham is the only other true rookie.
To make room for Session on the roster, the Bills released undrafted rookie OL Paul Madsen.
