FA WR Meachem latest to appear in Buffalo

Buffalo's free agent dinner table Tuesday evening in Buffalo just added three more chairs. Arriving about an hour after top pass rushing free agent Mario Williams sat down with the Bills brass in downtown Buffalo, he was joined by free agent wide receiver Robert Meachem.

Much like the Bills sent GM Buddy Nix and defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt to lure Williams back to Buffalo by private jet, the club did the same with Meachem dispatching offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins and receivers coach Bob Bicknell to meet face-to-face with the free agent receiver and escort him back to the Queen City. The receiver agreed to fly back to Buffalo with the two Bills coaches arriving in town early Tuesday evening.

A former first-round pick of the Saints in 2007, Meachem has logged 40 receptions or more in each of the past three seasons along with 20 touchdowns catches despite playing in an offense where the ball is spread around a lot.

Buffalo was open about their interest in adding a proven outside receiving threat opposite Stevie Johnson. Meachem (6'2" 210) also offers 4.4 speed, which would provide Buffalo with a much needed deep threat to stretch the field.

Modkins, Bicknell and Meachem joined fellow free agent Williams along with the Bills brass for dinner in downtown Buffalo.

The Bills have made a good first step in luring both players to town. Closing the deal on both free agents is the next step.
