He dined with members of Buffalo’s front office and head coach Doug Marrone last weekend. On Thursday he met the Bills on their turf. Free agent tight end Fred Davis met club officials including coach Marrone at One Bills Drive in Orchard Park.
Davis, 27, is an athletic pass catching tight end who would add an intriguing option to Buffalo's passing attack. However, he is also recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered last October. Rehabilitation typically takes 11 months to a year to make a full recovery. Davis however, has a much more optimistic outlook.

"I feel good right now," said Davis on PFC radio Tuesday. "I'm only four and a half months out of my surgery and I'm already running and stuff so I already know what I'm going to be able to do this year. I will be back to 100 percent."
The Bills likely took their time in conducting the player physical with Davis in light of his major surgery. Even Davis knows the chances of getting a contract offer will likely hinge on that physical exam.
"No offer yet," Davis told PFC radio. "They want to see where I'm at and go from there."
Buffalo is in need of a healthy tight end knowing they could be without starting tight end Scott Chandler come August after he underwent ACL knee surgery this offseason. He could possibly return in time for the regular season.
There's no denying that Davis is a playmaking talent in the passing game, but he maintains he's a solid blocker and feels after two straight seasons of being a starter that he's a wiser player as well.
"A lot of people don't know I can block. If anyone has watched how many times I've gone one-on-one against a defensive end in pass protection. I've only been charged with a sack four or five times in the last four years of me playing," he said. "My blocking is better, my routes are better. My yards after the catch and my hands are good. If I'm added to a team I'm only going to make them better."
Davis is a former second-round pick of the Washington Redskins and has expressed interest in re-signing with Washington, but their cap situation has them a bit handcuffed.

The tight end had career-highs in catches (59) and receiving yards (796) in 2011 before his 2012 campaign was cut short in Week 7 last year with the injury.
After getting a feel for what the possibilities are in Buffalo's offense from his initial meeting with the Bills, Davis believes he could be a match for the club.
"The offense that they're running, it's very tight end friendly and if you add a rookie QB everybody knows the tight end is the safety net," he said. "So there would be a lot of opportunities."
