McKelvin to be in the slot?

MCKELVIN TO BE IN THE SLOT?: In the morning meeting with defensive coordinator Perry Fewell today, Leodis McKelvin was shown something new, plays with him as a slot corner in the nickel package.

"Yeah it's something new that he's showing me because most of the spring I was on the outside," said McKelvin. "But he's showing me stuff in the slot so I'm going to get some work there."

If McKelvin spends a lot of time in the slot it could be a sign that Fewell is pretty satisfied with Terrence McGee and Jabari Greer as his starting cornerbacks.

Greer was thought to facing competition from McKelvin for the starting role and he still might, but if McKelvin spends a lot of time in the slot over the next few weeks it may be in an effort to get their top pick ready to be on the field somewhere if he can't unseat Greer.

McKelvin would be competing directly with Will James and Reggie Corner for time in the slot.

Long first day for McKelvin

LONG FIRST DAY FOR MCKELVIN: Leodis McKelvin's first day on the St. John Fisher campus got started at 7am when he woke up. By 8 he was meeting with Perry Fewell to get caught up on a lot of what he's missed. After team meetings he was participating in walk through with his teammates and was the left cornerback with the second unit pushing Ashton Youboty down to third team.

After the walk through and a weight lifting session he went out to the JUGS machine to practice catching balls.

"The idea is to work here. I was working on catching the ball and looking it and just getting better and better," said McKelvin.

McKelvin will be in more meetings tonight and it all really gets going Monday in the first pads practice.

"I'm just ready to show that I'm physical, that I can cover, be very physical at the line and come up and hit. I know we won't tackle anybody in practice, but I'm going to show I have some physical ability in me," McKelvin said.

A deal for Hester?

A DEAL FOR HESTER?: According to the Chicago Sun-Times Devin Hester is on the verge of receiving a four-year contract extension. Hester initially was a holdout then reported to camp a few days ago. Much like Jason Peters his agent is also Eugene Parker.

Hopefully if Peters decides to report to camp he'll experience a similar situation so the impasse can be resolved.
