Bills RB Fred Jackson left Sunday's game late in the fourth quarter with a knee injury and did not return. On Monday morning while making his weekly appearance on Bills flagship station WGR Sportsradio 550 head coach Chan Gailey provided an early prognosis.
"It's not good," Gailey said. "It's a minimum of two to three weeks. That's what I was told. Something could change this morning and it could be a better prognosis, but I was told it looks like it'll be a two or three week deal."
With only three games left in the regular season and the playoffs highly unlikely, it does not appear that Jackson will return to the field in 2012.
Jackson right knee was hit on a 2nd-and-11 play when he carried the ball up the middle. His right foot appeared to be firmly planted in the ground when his knee took the brunt of the impact from Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers.
It has been a very unlucky season for Jackson as this is the third time this season that the veteran back was injured and will miss time on the field. In Week 1 he sustained a sprained LCL on the same right knee and missed the next two games. In Week 10 he sustained a concussion in the loss to the Patriots on the road and missed the Week 11 Thursday night game against the Dolphins.
As has been the plan in the past, the lion's share of the workload will shift to C.J. Spiller with Jackson out of the lineup.
"We'll play C.J. as much as he can play," Gailey said. "Tashard (Choice) will rest him when he needs rest."
