It's not his ultimate goal, but with a firm grasp of the history of great running backs that have come through the NFL, becoming the 30th player in league annals to reach 10-thousand career rushing yards on Sunday was not lost on LeSean McCoy.

As proud as he was to surpass the lofty figure, McCoy seemed almost more appreciative of the support he had all season from his teammates.

"It was cool. It was fun," he said of eclipsing 10-thousand rushing yards. "Just the guys not only this week, but the whole year. The linemen constantly telling me, 'Let's get 10K,' or 'Ten-K chase.' There were times I'd forget about it and they'd remind me. They wanted it as bad as I did, maybe even more."

During pre-game warmups teammates were wearing the now familiar 'McCoy 10K Chase' sweatshirts, and after the highlight video of some of his greatest runs ran on the video board once he reached the mark, more than two dozen teammates offered their congratulations.

"It's great," said Vladimir Ducasse. "Whenever something like that happens you feel good, especially Shady. He's been coming in every day working hard. We definitely are happy for him."

"That shows you the type of team we have. So even guys on the defense bringing it up and talking about it. I'm happy it's over and happy it's done. Now let's try to get in the playoffs. We took care of business and we've got a huge opponent next week."

Even head coach Sean McDermott went to shake McCoy's hands to congratulate his feature back during a break in the action on the field.

"It's an unbelievable achievement," said McDermott. "I feel fortunate to be a part of it, to have watched it take place. That's one for the ages right there, that type of accomplishment. Hopefully everybody got their money's worth with that. That was good to see."

McCoy reached 10-thousand yards on a 14-yard carry midway through the second quarter. At the end of the play however, when fans were ready to cheer, McCoy stayed down on the ground causing a momentary sense of panic.

Heading into Sunday's game McCoy represented 34 percent of the team's total yardage this season and touched the ball on 35 percent of the team's plays in 2017. Against the Dolphins not much changed as he had the ball in his hands on 39 percent of Buffalo's offensive plays, and contributed a pair of touchdowns.

"Shady is a special talent of course," said Tyrod Taylor. "For him to get 10K at such a young age is impressive as well too. The team, we want to see guys achieve their personal goals, but their team goals too. We were trying to get him that last week and we were short, but guys love when guys make history. It's big for him. I know he's excited. I'm excited for him."

Taylor mentioning McCoy's age is noteworthy. He reached 10-thousand rushing yards on 2,145 carries – making him the fifth-fastest to reach 10,000 yards in NFL history, trailing only Jim Brown, Adrian Peterson, Barry Sanders and OJ Simpson.

He currently sits 29th all-time. There's a chance he could move up to 28th as he sits 262 yards behind Ottis Anderson (10,273), the Super Bowl XXV MVP.

If McCoy can stay relatively healthy for the next couple of years, he'll have a good chance of achieving his ultimate personal goal.

"The ultimate goal is to get to 12-thousand so I've got a lot more work to go," he said. "I've got a lot more years to get things done, a lot more yards to make. I want to get a ring. I want to get a championship. That's one of the things I've had on my list since I was a kid. Watching championship games and the playoffs as a child. That's something I want to accomplish."
