Training Camp Practice Report: Aug 22

For the first time this preseason Bills head coach Dick Jauron pumped up the volume as music and crowd noise rained down on the offensive units at practice Friday.

"It's an away game and we're back here where we have the sound system to play the noise so we use it," said Jauron. "During the season we use it every week. A lot of times we'll even use it when we're playing at home just to get them used to the sound. It's going to be very loud we believe on Sunday night."

The Colts will be playing their first game in their brand new facility Lucas Oil Stadium, which has a retractable roof. And that roof may be getting a workout on Sunday night as it may be open only for a portion of the game.

"I believe I've been told that it may be half and half," said Jauron.

Injury update
Not participating in practice Friday were Trent Edwards, Roscoe Parrish, Jon Banks, Matt Murphy, Derek Schouman and James Hardy.

All six players are not expected to dress for Sunday night's game. There's more on Edwards' recovery from his thigh contusion as well as Hardy and Parrish here.

Not in attendance Friday was offensive tackle Patrick Estes.

"He was excused for personal reasons, but he got through the last two practices well so he'll be available (Sunday)," said Jauron.

John DiGiorgio returned to action from his calf injury and practiced with the second unit Friday.

Getting reps
Filling the void at right tackle for Estes was the newly signed Dustin Dickinson.

Stepping in for Terrence McGee at times with the first unit Friday was Leodis McKelvin.

With Jon Banks out Marcus Buggs has been getting reps at middle linebacker with the third unit, in addition to his outside linebacker duties.

Kyle Williams was back next to Marcus Stroud with the first unit defense as the battle for the right defensive tackle position continues.

Highlights
The defense was active in practice Friday with Donte Whitner kicking things off with an interception in the end zone on a pass from Matt Baker that was intended for Derek Fine.

Two plays later however, Baker found Courtney Anderson in the back corner of the end zone for a score. Baker also hit C.J. Hawthorne for a touchdown as the rookie free agent receiver has made more plays the past few days.

During 11-on-11 Jabari Greer recorded an interception on a throw from Hamdan, and two plays later Kawika Mitchell also took a good angle to the ball and intercepted a pass that he likely would have returned for a touchdown.

Leodis Mckelvin deflected a pass high into the air that George Wilson was able to run under for an INT, and Bryan Scott intercepted a bomb by Matt Baker that was intended for a receiver who mistakenly broke off his route.

Spencer Johnson also chipped in with a batted pass.

Offensively Josh Reed made a big play on a long ball from J.P. Losman. Felton Huggins and Justin Jenkins each had a few quality receptions and Steve Johnson made a difficult one-handed grab in the flat.

The Bills have a walk through practice Saturday morning before departing for Indianapolis for the first game ever in the Colts' new facility Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday night.
