Watkins signs rookie deal with Bills

The terms were largely spelled out already, but on Wednesday Sammy Watkins made it official signing his rookie contract with the Bills. Taken fourth overall in the 2014 NFL draft three weeks ago, Watkins joins a handful of other first-round picks that have agreed to terms with their respective clubs.

"It's great just to put that behind you," Watkins said minutes after signing. "Just to know you have financial stability and now it's just all football. Every day I can come in and worry about football, my plays and my job. Just worry about the connection of the offense and learning from the older guys. That's what it's about."

Just an hour after participating in his first OTA practice with most of the roster, Watkins put pen to paper becoming the sixth draft choice in the seven-player class to sign.

Watkins was fully aware of the security his contract provides him and his family, but his focus was clearly football in the wake of the signing.

"It's definitely a blessing, but for me it's to come in and perform," he said. "Get the playbook down and get bonding with the quarterback and the offense. It's a blessing, but I've got to move forward and perform now."

The receiver is the 11th first-round pick to sign his rookie contract from the 2014 class and the fourth to sign in the top 10 joining Oakland's Khalil Mack, Atlanta's Jake Matthews and Minnesota's Anthony Barr.

Watkins is expected to be the team's new number one receiving option and is expected to be lining up outside most of the time this fall.

Second-round pick Cyrus Kouandjio is the only Bills draft choice not yet under contract.

The Bills selected Sammy Watkins with the 4th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Here is a collection of photos of the newest Buffalo Bills wide receiver.
