Photos | Buffalo Bills Celebrate Native American Heritage Month!

The Buffalo Bills, in partnership with Seneca Casinos, celebrated Native American Heritage Month at their November 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Bills welcomed Color Guard Iroquois Post 1587 American Legion as well as guests of Seneca to hold the pregame introduction banners, and a traditional smoke dance was performed. Members of the Seneca community participated in a halftime flag football scrimmage against mascots, the Bills honored Peter Maybee as the Military Honoree of the game, and Seneca Gaming Corporation President & CEO Kevin Nephew joined the Bills as a Conductor of the Game. Strawberry Juice and Strawberry Shortcake was available to fans in the Seneca Field Club. Ojísdödå'shÀ', or the wild strawberry, is revered as a sacred gift and a central part of the Haudenosaunee Creation Story, where plants and medicines grew up the earth above Sky Woman's resting place. Known as the "leader of the berries," it is the first fruit to ripen in spring, signaling the end of winter and the renewal of life. According to Haudenosaunee teachings, ojísdödå'shÀ' are said to line the path back to Skyworld as our spirits journey after death. This gallery is presented by Seneca Resorts & Casinos.
