Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills won a 37-34 overtime battle in dramatic fashion on Monday night. The victory was Allen's 100th total win in his career, and his first win in eight career games that required an overtime period.

Game Recap

In overtime, Buffalo got the opening kickoff, with WR Khalil Shakir taking a short pass over the middle for a 57-yard gain down the left sideline to the Rams' 22-yard line. RB James Cook III took a handoff up the middle on the following play, getting the ball punched out of his hands, with Los Angeles recovering the fumble.

The Rams threw for a pair of 21-yard chunk plays following the turnover, getting the ball down to the Bills' 30-yard line. Los Angeles K Harrison Mevis came out for a 48-yard field goal on fourth down, watching as OLB Greg Rousseau burst through the line, blocking the kick.

Following the block, Buffalo got into field goal range off the back of a pair of Allen scrambles, setting up K Tyler Bass for a 45-yard field goal. Bass drilled his kick right down the middle, securing the 37-34 victory.

The end of regulation had nearly as much action as the overtime period, with six straight touchdown drives prior to the end of the fourth quarter.

Tied 27-27 with just over seven minutes to go in the fourth, the Bills offense looked to milk the clock and take the lead.

Allen scrambled for 15 yards to convert a huge third down in the clutch. After struggling to find open wide receivers all game to that point, Shakir found open space for 17 yards down to the Rams' 36-yard line.

The quarterback again scrambled up the middle on a second-and-17 two plays later, picking up 21 yards. From the five-yard line, Cook barreled into the end zone, taking a 34-27 lead.

Los Angeles had 1:39 left on the clock, picking up multiple chunk plays offensively on the way down to the one-yard line. RB Kyren Williams found an opening, crossing the plane to tie the game 34-34, and forcing overtime.

Cook and Allen combined for 232 yards on the ground, along with three rushing touchdowns. Allen had 121 (the second most in his career) on 10 carries with a touchdown, with Cook going for 111 on 25 attempts and the other two scores.

Success through the air was much harder to come by for the Bills, with Allen completing just 12 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown. Shakir led the team with three catches for 80 receiving yards, 73 of which came in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Heading into their third drive of the game with negative passing yards, Allen and the Bills looked to find a groove. The quarterback found RB Ty Johnson on a screen to his right with open space and a cavalry of offensive linemen in front of him.

Johnson showed off his speed down the sideline, finally being tackled after a 40-yard gain. Cook took a misdirection handoff to the right side on the next play, cutting up the middle and dragging a pair of defenders into the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown.

Johnson again came through for his squad on the following possession. On a third-and-five near midfield, the running back blocked and released into the left flat wide open, picking up 26 yards down the left sideline.

Four plays later, Allen threw to the right flat, finding WR Keon Coleman wide open. Coleman easily walked into the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown catch.

Buffalo got hot offensively to start the fourth quarter. Cook ran for 18 yards on the second play of the drive, followed by a 22-yard scramble by Allen up the middle and a 31-yard screen pass to RB Ray Davis.

Allen drove into the end zone on a one-yard tush push on the following play. After a two-point conversion to TE Dalton Kincaid, the Bills took a 27-20 lead.

Johnson and Davis played huge roles throughout the downfield passing struggles, with Johnson going for 72 receiving yards on four catches, and Davis picking up the 31 of his own. Davis also picked up 70 yards on the game's opening kickoff, helping set up a 49-yard field goal.

Los Angeles strung together a 14-play drive following the field goal to open the day. Fizzling out at the Bills' 32-yard line, Harrison Mevis missed his 50-yard field goal attempt wide left to keep the score 3-0.

The Rams used up over seven minutes of game time again on their second drive of the night. Fourteen plays and three third-down conversions later, QB Matthew Stafford found WR Davante Adams on a quick out route from the slot to his left for a four-yard touchdown pass.

Stafford was dominant in the loss for Los Angeles, living up to his MVP pedigree. The quarterback went 40-of-54 passing with 383 yards and three touchdowns, coming up just short despite putting up 34 points.

WR Puka Nacua was easily Stafford's favorite target on the night, being targeted a whopping 24 times. The wideout caught 17 passes in the loss, the most ever in a game against the Bills, racking up 138 yards and a touchdown.

A pair of turnovers and 13 penalties that accounted for 112 yards plagued Buffalo on Monday night. Despite the struggles, the team came through when it mattered the most for a statement victory.

Up next, the Bills will remain on the West Coast, taking on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. Kickoff from Allegiant Stadium is set for Sunday, Oct. 18 at 4:25 p.m. EST.
