Bills injury updates on a short week, Josh Allen eyes rushing record and team 'moving forward' after Keon Coleman inactive decision

Updates from One Bills Drive Monday afternoon as the Bills begin a short week of preparation to face the Houston Texans on the road for Thursday Night Football.

Injury & practice updates heading into a short week

24 hours after wrapping up a 44-32 win over the Bucs, the Bills were back on the field Monday for a walk-through practice at One Bills Drive. Buffalo will have practices the following two days before departing for Houston Wednesday afternoon.

TE Dalton Kincaid (hamstring), DT Phidarian Mathis (shoulder), WR Mecole Hardman Jr. (calf) and WR Curtis Samuel (elbow/neck) will not participate in Monday's walk-through.

On a short week, Bills head coach Sean McDermott is working to balance rest & recovery with game preparation. He shared that S Jordan Poyer, DT DaQuan Jones, CB Christian Benford, LB Terrel Bernard, CB Taron Johnson, DE Joey Bosa, LB Dorian Williams, WR Joshua Palmer, OL Connor McGovern and DT Jordan Phillips will all be limited Monday.

Poyer and Jones were given a veteran rest day.

"It's somewhat to be expected, just coming off of a game yesterday," McDermott said of the injury list. "The key is we got to get them as fresh as we can for Thursday night, somewhere in there you'd like to be able to get in some level of practice."

Josh Allen eyes another milestone

Quarterback Josh Allen set several NFL records during Sunday's victory. His six-TD outing solidified him as the only QB in league history with multiple 3+ pass TD and 3+ rush TD performances.

He also set the NFL record for most total TDs before turning 30. Allen, who will turn 30 in May, passed Peyton Manning for the honor and now has 290 scores (and counting).

There's another notable milestone on the horizon that Allen could reach as soon as this Thursday against the Texans. Allen needs one rushing touchdown to pass Cam Newton (75) for the most rushing TDs by a QB in NFL history.

"He likes running, he does. Which you would think by now he would be like, 'hey, no, I'm good'. He's just so competitive, so tough," McDermott said.

Allen is on pace to set a career-high in rushing touchdowns this season, leading the league through 10 games with 10 rushing scores. He needs just five more in the next seven games to tie his career-high.

The Bills are 3-1 over their last four games and Allen has recorded seven rushing TDs during that span.

Bills "moving forward" with Keon Coleman situation

McDermott made a tough but necessary decision to make second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman a healthy scratch against Tampa Bay due to the receiver missing a Friday team meeting.

Coleman took accountability for his actions when speaking to reporters outside the team locker room following Sunday's game.

McDermott elaborated on the situation Monday.

"The important piece is that we and he learns from this, as I said yesterday, and he grows from this. You grow from it, we can move forward, and you don't grow from it, it's hard to move forward," he said.

"So ultimately, it becomes about developing trust and the trust that your teammates have in you. That trust builds through repetition and consistency. That's the direction that we need him to go, and we believe he will go."

The head coach did not indicate whether or not that meant Coleman will return to action this week.

"We'll see, we'll see how it goes. Take it one day at a time, We addressed the situation yesterday. We're now moving forward, and we'll take it one day at a time from there," he said.
